Can you tell us a bit about yourself?
Sure! I'm currently a Term 8 student at ArtCenter College of Design, majoring in Entertainment Design. I'm set to graduate this summer. I'm known for my sunny personality and a deep passion for helping others, and I always aim to combine creativity with a collaborative spirit in my work.
Why did you choose ArtCenter?
I chose ArtCenter because of its unique teaching approach, especially in entertainment and film. It stood out distinctly compared to other universities. Recommendations from friends and peers also reinforced my decision that ArtCenter was the best place for me to pursue my creative goals.
What's your favorite gallery in LA, and why?
I really enjoy visiting the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures. They always have great seasonal events and diverse exhibitions that are both educational and inspirational. Although I don't visit museums frequently, I love exploring fine arts and photography online to keep my creativity flowing.

Which courses would you recommend to new ArtCenter students?
I'd highly recommend Visual Development, Light and Color, and Costume Design. These classes have significantly deepened my understanding and sparked new, innovative ideas. One particularly impactful lesson was from a professor who emphasized the importance of graphic design fundamentals, specifically layout and typography. This advice really improved how I visually communicate my ideas.

How has your creative process changed since joining ArtCenter?
My process has become much more structured and organized. Now, I follow a clear, step-by-step approach, which helps me manage my projects efficiently and enhances my time management skills. I've also learned to embrace feedback and criticism, which has been crucial in my growth as a designer.
Was there a particular class or project that pushed your creative boundaries?
Definitely! The Urban Technology course really challenged me. It involved collaborating with students from different majors, which pushed me out of my comfort zone. A character design assignment that focused more on concept design was particularly impactful, greatly boosting my creative skills and confidence.
What's your final project about?
For my final project, I'm combining traditional Korean costumes with modern fashion, focusing on something I feel deeply passionate about. Instead of starting with problem-solving, I dove into comprehensive research, gathering resources and organizing them into a unified file. This approach allowed me to closely align the project with my personal interests.

How do you balance functionality with creativity in your work?
Thorough research and paying attention to small details are crucial. Things like the functionality of buttons or how elements fit together can prevent significant problems later on. To avoid burnout, I create separate folders for work and leisure activities, and I occasionally draw unrelated characters to refresh my mind and keep the creativity flowing.

What are your career aspirations?
I aspire to work at Sony, specifically focusing on character design and graphic novels. These areas deeply resonate with me. Right now, I'm building my portfolio through personal projects, gaining valuable experience, and continuously refining my skills. I'm excited to contribute to the entertainment design field after graduation.
Any advice for new students?
Yes! Prioritize your time management—it's essential. And don't forget to consistently maintain your health and well-being. It's crucial for creative growth and academic success. Lastly, don't be afraid to ask for help or feedback. Constructive criticism is a powerful tool for improvement.
